Sunshine Coast parks and trails

Copeland Islands Provincial Marine Park in BC, Canada is located in Thulin Passage and was established in July 1971. The Provincial Park is 180 hectares in size with a 257 hectares of foreshore and open year round. The group of islands and islets provides many adventurers with a natural simplistic getaway with basic amenities. It is not an overnight destination for the unprepared.

Copeland Islands is also referred to as the Ragged Islands by some. Kayakers usually plan a visit after launching from Lund on their way to the marine wonders of Desolation Sound. Scuba diving draws people to the area to explore the underwater reefs and marine activity as Copeland has many protected bays and sheltered inlets to explore. The park and it's surrounding marine areas are also a popular choice for fishing and wilderness camping.

The camping conditions are not for the RV type of camper as this camping experience is about bare necessities and the surrounding scenery and natural areas. Walk-in camping is allowed. The designated two tenting locations are tricking to find. There are four framed tent pads on the islands accessed easily by canoe and kayak; two are found on the northernmost set of islands and the other two are located on the southern portion of Copeland Islands.

The wilderness camping facilities are just that. Rough. There are no day-use or picnic facilities. You better bring your own drinking water as drinkable water is not available in the park. There are three pit toilets in the park but if looking for showers, your are dreaming big time. That will have to wait till civilization. The park does not have a boat launch but there are some park buildings on the islands.

Access to Copeland Islands Marine Provincial Park: It is accessible only by boat, kayak or canoe. So, as you have probably figured out by now, this park is not vehicle accessible. Just thought we would make sure of that point eh.
